Dubai to Launch 70 New Road Projects Worth Dh35 Billion as Vehicle Numbers Surge

Dubai: Dubai is preparing for a major expansion of its road infrastructure, with more than 70 new transport projects scheduled over the next three years, as the city races to keep up with rapidly rising vehicle numbers.

Speaking at the Dubai International Project Management Forum, Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), said Dubai is experiencing vehicle growth at a rate ten times higher than the global average.

The emirate currently records an annual vehicle growth of 8 to 10 per cent, driven by population growth, booming tourism, and sustained economic expansion. This surge has placed increasing pressure on the existing transport network, prompting an accelerated infrastructure response.

“To keep pace with this growth, we will be launching and completing at least one major road project every month for the next three years,” Al Tayer said in a televised interview with Dubai TV. He added that the total investment for the programme is expected to reach Dh35 billion (US$9.5 billion).

The projects will be delivered through a mix of government funding and public-private partnerships, reinforcing transport infrastructure as a key pillar of Dubai’s economic development.

“You cannot grow your economy or your businesses without a functional transport network,” Al Tayer noted.

While acknowledging that the scale of construction will temporarily impact traffic flow, the RTA chief urged residents and visitors to remain patient. “These projects may cause short-term disruptions, but they are essential investments in Dubai’s future,” he said.

Al Tayer added that the current phase requires close coordination between government entities and private contractors, backed by strong financial commitments. Significant budget allocations have already been secured to ensure projects are delivered on time and to international standards.
